Session Description: Has a gift officer ever looked into a prospect’s real estate and mistaken a multimillion-dollar building for an individual unit? Can your development associates discriminate between the twenty-one managing directors in Bain Capital’s Boston office? Gift officers and associates frequently need to research donors and foundation, but don’t always have the tools or the expertise. By teaching certain research basics, prospect researchers can empower fundraisers and support staff, free up time for more complex prospecting, and raise the profile of your prospect research team. Alexandra Parfitt will discuss her workshops on alternative assets, professional writing, and international donors. By sharing best practices, she will teach you how to develop training programs that enhance collaboration and save you time.

Speaker Bio: Alexandra Parfitt is Associate Director of Prospect Research at Temple University, where she helps oversee a team of five researchers who support over forty gift officers. She was previously Associate Prospect Research Analyst at Yale University, where she supported the central major gift and principal gift teams, and specialized in developing in-house training programs and project-based prospecting for the Yale Divinity School and Yale University Library. She came to prospect research from teaching: she holds a B.A. in Germanic Studies and Comparative Literature from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature to Yale and taught at the Hill School and Villanova University.
